Bouyant Force In Gases
Buoyant Forces of Gases:
Gases exert an upward or buoyant force very much as liquids do. A body immersed in a gas is buoyanced upward with a force equal to the weight of the gas displaced. This lifting power of air makes it possible for balloons to rise and to carry heavy loads. The higher rises the balloon, the lesser becomes the buoyant effect. It is because of the decrease in density of the air. There is a limit to the height to which any balloon can travel. Sooner or later, it will reach an altitude where the buoyant force is not greater than the total weight. The balloon will then go no higher unless its load is reduced. A toy balloon made of rubber may expand until it bursts.
